30 years of planting seeds of support, education, and transformation
Students & Scientists Environmental Health Ambassador Program
Training future leaders in environmental health science and communication. We’ve been planting the seeds of environmental health and advocacy since 2007. This program focuses on health risks and the importance of environmental research providing a wealth of scientific knowledge related to the causation of all cancers and chronic diseases. Students who participate gain environmental health literacy, confidence, and real-world experience with leadership and teamwork. They build valuable skillsets that include critical thinking, communication strategies, social media marketing, time management, and an understanding of policy. Developing educational and inspirational materials and presentations. It is not only our mission to educate the public through presentations, but to translate and disseminate high science. Throughout Long Island, we build capacity for environmental health literacy and advocacy. We work with at-risk women, at-risk youth, local asthma groups, senior centers, and more. Now more than ever, it’s important that we reach out to diverse groups through our community connections with a framework to institute positive change in their homes and their communities. Through the SSERSP program, high school students connect with middle and high school students to share the knowledge they learned and encourage their peers to live healthier lifestyles through small daily changes. We create a variety of materials geared towards different age groups.
